Purpose of Using “I” Statements “I” Statements Help You ________ Avoid putting someone else down Express your feelings honestly Take ownership of your feelings and opinions

“You” vs. “I” “You” statements are often seen as negative  EX: You always leave the kitchen a mess! “I” statements are seen as positive EX: I don’t like it when you don’t clean up after yourself.

Using “I” Statements takes a lot of practice and some reminders!
