CHAIR OF NETWORK INDUSTRY MANAGEMENT Problems with HI Immergut (1998: 26-27) takes issues with historical institutionalism –there is the problem of falsifiability – almost any construction of interests or contextual causal model will appear to be only explainable through history, until one has hit on a more general explanation –historical institutionalists profit somewhat unfairly from the positive models that they criticize (e.g. Marxism) –in eschewing systematization, the historical institutionalists undercut the cumulative impact of their work (Immergut, 2005) New institutionalism fails to provide an adequate explanation of institutional change or at severely question its explanatory powers.
