Improving our world

The Marolles

The Interview…

Several dining options

There are not enough cycle paths and they’re not safe 8

Public Transport What do you think of public transports in Brussels?  They’re good but too expensive!

The city is not clean enough and authorities could do more about it 10

People do not collect their animal’s excrement as they should 11

Sint-Agatha-Berchem

Allotments: a garden for everyone! Plant vegetables!

Kattenbroeck: natural reserve

European Parliament

Initiatives of the E P to protect the environment? Nitrate-problematic Birds-protecting Plastic Bags

Is environmental protection: a priority?! In words, yes In deeds, no!  Belgium: they invest in public transport but also in diesel.

Teledetection

Geomobile Vegetation map of Brussels Before the workshop we thought there was only 25% green in Brussels.

Marking the green areas on a map during our walk in St.-Agatha-Berchem  a lot of green in the area  The photos of the satellite confirmed our work

Vegetation Population Income

Analysis City centre Higher population No green zones Low incomes Outskirts Lower population Green zones High incomes

Parks and green areas Cities need more green space!

OUR SOLUTIONS:  Free recycled bags needed to grab waste from the floor  Planting trees and create new green areas  less space for cars  better quality of the air  Lower the price of the public transport  Expand the cycle paths and make them safer for the citizens  more bikers  less drivers!

More solutions ● Cities can give subventions for solar panels and for green roofs. ● Put packing deposit money on the plastic bottles  less people will throw them on the street. ● The city can oblige people to plant trees and other green in the garden.
