THE INTRODUCTION IN ANATOMY By Dr. Ahmad Kamil Shahwan Ph.D. General Surgery

The introduction in anatomy The anatomy is the science of the structure & the function of the body. THE TERMS OF POSITION SUPERIOR=CEPHALIC :toward the head or at the upper part of the structure.. INFERIOR=CAUDAL : away from the head or at the lower end of the structure. ANTERIOR=VENTRAL : in front of the str. POSTERIOR=DORSAL :at the back of the str..

The introduction in anatomy MEDIAL : near the mid-line of the body. LATERAL : away from the mid-line of the body. PROXIMAI:toward the trunk or at the beginning of the str. Distal : away from the trunk or away from the beginning of the str. MEDIAN : in the mid-line of the str. SUPERFICIAL : near the surface. DEEP : away from the surface.

The introduction in anatomy INTERMEDIATE :between 2 other str. CENTRAL : towards the center. PERIPHRAL : away from the center. A SAGITTAL PLANE : any vertical antero- posterior plane parallel to the median plane. A CORONAL PLANE : any vertical side to side plane at the right angle to the sagittal plane. A TRANSVERSE PLANE : is any plane at the right angle to the sagittal & coronal planes.

The introduction in anatomy The palmer surface is ant. surface of the hand while the planter surface is the lower surface of the foot The supine position = the body is lying on the back while the prone position = the body is lying face downward. the lateral position = the body is lying on the side ( left lateral & right lateral). Trendelenberg position = the supine position + head downward while the anti- trendelenberg position = the supine position + head up.
