Having a Healthy Lifestyle And making good choices!

How do we know what is important? Technology and medical advances can help us understand how the human body functions and allow us to make informed decisions regarding our health.

Life style choices, environmental factors, and genetics can cause abnormalities to occur during embryonic development as well as later in life.

Making Choices Toxic substances, some dietary habits, and some personal behavior may be bad for one’s health.

Hygiene Good hygiene reduces the risk of infection and disease. Examples of good hygiene? Wash your hands! Brush your teeth! What else?

Exercise How does exercise benefit you? Controls weight Combats health conditions Heart disease, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, stroke Improves mood Boosts energy Promotes better sleep

Toxic Substances Human activities such as … smoking, consumption of alcohol and the use of drugs …lead to a variety of conditions within the body and interfere with the efficient operation of the body.

Alcohol and other drugs are often abused substances. Such drugs change how the body functions and can lead to addiction.

Avoiding toxic substances, such as tobacco, and changing dietary habits increases the chance of living longer. The use of tobacco increases the risk of illness. There are possible long-term detrimental effects of smoking and chewing tobacco.

Dietary Habits Dietary Choices Good? Why? Maintaining a balanced diet. Eating your fruits and vegetables. Maintaining a balanced diet. Why? Helps you obtain the vitamins and nutrients that you need in order for your body to stay healthy.
