That she had seen a bear in the library before. Opal asked her to let Winn Dixie come inside the library. When he came in Miss Franny put her hand on his head and he moved his 3

tail up and down. Miss Franny sat properly and started telling Opal her story. She said that long years ago when she was a little girl, she asked her father to build her a small library as a gift for her birthday. Her father built her that library and she became a librarian. Opal said that they all can be friends. Now Opal, Winn Dixie and Miss Franny are friends. Then, a girl named Amanda came in the library asking for a book. Amanda asked if the dogs were allowed in the library. Miss Franny answered that only Winn Dixie is allowed in, so Opal became very happy with her new friend Miss Franny. 47

One day when she was sitting in her library reading a book, something with a peculiar smell passed by her. She raised her head to talk to him, but she found out that it was a big bear. She said to herself “if the bear intends to eat me, I have to fight with it.” 5 She threw the book she was reading at the bear. It was a surprise, when the bear took the book and ran away. Then, Miss Franny said that all her friends who were living at that time are now dead. She doesn’t have any friends now. 6
