Delivering trees to farmers: improving strategies for germplasm supply Poster presentation exercise

Purpose of exercise The purpose of this exercise is to place your work in the context of other projects involved in supplying germplasm This allows a re-evaluation of current practice, and the ability to devise more efficient and effective action

Poster presentations Before the workshop, a subset of participants were asked to prepare posters on a project that they are involved with that is related to germplasm provision

Poster presentations In posters, we asked presenters to briefly describe the purpose of the project, where it is being carried out, it's scale, and (if possible) to address the following points: –Pathways for germplasm –Pricing policy for purchase and sale of germplasm (or if supplied for free) –Any measures taken to ensure sustainability of germplasm supply –The main constraints faced during project implementation –Lessons for the future (how do things differently?)

Exercise methods and requirements Through viewing posters, initiating discussions with presenters, and ‘listening in’ to the discussions between other participants and presenters, you are asked, for each poster presentation, to identify the following: A strength of the project for germplasm provision An issue of concern regarding germplasm provision A lesson to be considered for your own work

Reporting Participants should complete the form distributed for this exercise Information from this form will be collated and returned to each poster presenter, for their future reference

Logistics Each poster presenter had a 5 minute slot to describe their poster (no discussion at this stage) This is followed by 45 minutes for participants to discuss with presenters and complete their form (NB – much reach conclusions quickly!) Finally, a short plenary session will discuss some of the key strengths and concerns with a ‘poster presenter panel’
