ESPON 2013 Programme Info Day on New Calls and Partner Café Call for Proposals on Applied Research

Priority 1: Applied Research on Territorial, Development, Competitiveness and Cohesion Objectives Continued building of new evidence about European regions Address major territorial challenges & consequences for regions Provide comparable regionalised information & policy options for enhancing positive effects of trends, reacting upon negative ones Support assessment of territorial impacts of policies Support identification of potential synergies and/or conflicts between different policies and development opportunities

Territorial Potentials for a Greener Economy Main policy demand for research Potential of different European regions and cities for contributing to a greener economy. Indication on the role territorial policies might play in order to support the development of a greener economy. Report on other relevant key policy areas for the development of a green economy and their potential synergies. Budget: max €

Territorial Potentials for a Greener Economy Key research questions: What is the territorial dimension of the green economy (e.g. definition of the green economy from a territorial point of view, identification of green economic activities and key policy areas)? What is the state and perspective of the green economy within European regions? How can regional / local territorial policy strategies and actions contribute to a greener economy (e.g. identification of useful policy instruments and good practices)?

Territorial Governance – Best Practices for New Perspectives Main policy demand for research Report on organisation and good mechanisms to co-ordinate policies from different sectors and different administrative levels Potential of instruments of national / regional planning systems and other policy instruments for creating better territorial governance Lessons and indications on how cohesion policy can promote territorial governance Budget: max €

Territorial Governance – Best Practices for New Perspectives Key research questions: What are good examples of territorial governance to promote territorial development and and/or implement Cohesion Policy? Which are the main factors of success? What are recent trends in organising territorial development (for instance decentralisation, fusion of municipalities, etc.)? What are current good practices for territorial governance in Europe and why are they successful in achieving territorial development objectives? What are barriers for territorial governance and how are they being overcome? What role do and/or might spatial planning instruments and other instruments play in establishing good territorial governance
