To Kill a Mockingbird Lesson Objective: To recap what we already know about the main characters of part one of the novel.

So you think you know it? In pairs, put the events of the novel in the order they occur. You can use your books to help you! You have ten minutes!

The Correct Order! Scout and Jem meet Dill for the first time and discover he has seen Dracula. Jem accepts Dill’s dare of running to the Radley House and touching it. Scout starts school and gets into trouble with Miss Caroline. Walter Cunningham joins the finches for dinner where he pours syrup all over his dinner, much to Scout’s dismay. Scout finds chewing gum and other items in the tree by the Radley House.

Scout, Jem and Dill play the game of being Boo Radley. Scout Jem and Dill almost get caught in Mr Radley’s garden and Jem loses his trousers. Scout starts the second grade. The hole in the tree is filled with cement. Jem and Scout are devastated. Scout sees snow for the first time and helps build a controversial snowman. Miss Maudie’s house burns down and Scout get a visit from Boo.Scout fights with Cecil Jacobs defending Atticus.

Uncle Jack arrives and the Finches visit Aunt Alexandra for Christmas. Scout hits Francis and gets into trouble again. Scout and Jem decide to test out their air rifles but Atticus warns them about shooting the innocent. The rabid dog, Tim Johnson wanders down Scout and Jem’s road. Atticus proves himself a hero when he shoots Tim Johnson. Jem and Scout suffer the wrath of Mrs Dubose and Jem lives to regret his decision to antagonise her. Jem is forced to read to Mrs Dubose as a punishment for his crime. Mrs Dubose dies.
