Function Used to shoot, pass and carry the hockey puck

Major Materials Fiberglass Carbon fibers Kevlar for the more advanced players *Aluminum *Carbon fibers *Kevlar *Wood

Why use these materials? *Kevlar uses a carbon based aramid which are in the nylon family and made from sulfuric acids. The nylon is wet spun and made for very high strength. Some properties of Kevlar can changed. *Fiberglass It was used to be a extra coating of durability around wood because it could bend and have the flex players wanted while being strong. Carbon fibers

Why were these materials used *Carbon fibers Even though they have poor durability carbon fiber sticks are very popular in the NHL because players like the “feel” of the stick and they like the “flex” *Wood The wood was originally used because it had strength and could bend the way that players wanted.

Brief History *First made from maple or willow trees *More cost effective woods were used like yellow birch and ash *Between 1920 and 1960 laminated sticks were invented *In the 1960’s fiberglass was made *In 1960’s players used curved blades *IN the 1980’s the first single piece aluminum stick was made *In the 2000’s Kevlar and carbon fibers were used.
