Data Access Framework Data Element Based Queries SWG May 19, 2014
Meeting Etiquette Remember: If you are not speaking, keep your phone on mute Do not put your phone on hold – if you need to take a call, hang up and dial in again when finished with your other call – Hold = Elevator Music = very frustrated speakers and participants This meeting, like all of our meeting is being recorded – Another reason to keep your phone on mute when not speaking Feel free to use the “Chat” feature for questions, comments or any items you would like the moderator or participants to know. NOTE: This meeting is being recorded and will be posted on the DAF Wikipage, under “Materials” “Past Meetings” From S&I Framework to Participants: Hi everyone: remember to keep your phone on mute 2

Query Analysis Query Analysis: Determine the constructs that we want to allow in Data Element Based queries. Limitations on Number of Data Elements to be included in the formation of a single query – A Query can be constructed using multiple data elements For e.g “Get patients between ages 16 and 65, with diabetes and having a hbA1C lab result of > 7%”.
Query Analysis Cont’d Comparators allowed in Query Specifications Numbers, Dates >, >=, <=, and < Strings – From FHIR: Search is case-insensitive and accent-insensitive. May match just the start of a string. String parameters may contain spaces. – Exact matches also required Quantities – Values which are numeric – Units which are strings Coded Concepts –May be used to search through the text, displayname, code and code/codesystem
Query Analysis Cont’d Concept of Named Queries ? – Similar to Document Queries with ability to vary the parameters for the queries.
Query Analysis Cont’d Logical Operators – AND – OR – NOT
Query Analysis Cont’d Missing Information – Allow queries on missing information or presence of information ? Specifying the data elements to be included in response – Should we allow for this in the queries ? – Responders may choose not to include all requested elements
Query Result Analysis Query Result Analysis: Determine the constructs that we want to allow in Data Element Based queries. Limitations on Number of Data Elements to be included in the formation of a single query – A Query Result can be constructed using multiple data elements For e.g: Query Results may contain Patient Demographics, Problems and Meds all as a result of a single query
Query Result Analysis Do Query Results need to allow for – Summaries ? – Paging ? – Counts ?
Query Result Analysis Other aspects that we are missing ?
Candidate Standards SOAP Query Stack – IHE QED and IHE CM profiles RESTful Query Stack – FHIR DSTU No existing profiles Other standards for specific parts of the queries/results – HQMF V2 for Queries and QRDA category III for Results – HL7 vMR Data Model HL7v2 Stack – QBP/RSP messages Implementation Languages in Use – SQL, Xquery,
