where they provide food for seed reach the ground. One strategy is to produce large seeds with food reserves enabling the seedling to survive in the low-light conditions of the understory. The second method characteristic of many pioneer species is to produce huge numbers of small seeds which only germinate under certain conditions (usually light gaps). When a light gap opens, these seeds sprout and the seedlings rapidly grow to once again plug the hole in the canopy -banana -mango -baby papaya -manga -cocounut -maracuja -acai -strawberry guava -bacab -camu-camu

There are about 40 different kinds of toucans. They vary in size from about 7 inches to a little over two feet. They have short and thick necks. Toucans are distinguished by large, colorful, yet lightweight bills. The color of the bill may be black, blue, brown, green, red, white, yellow or a combination of colors. The bright colors on his bill help to attract a mate. Toucans also have a narrow, feather-like tongue. They can be noisy birds with their calls sounding harsh and raspy Toucans are found in South and Central America in the canopy layer of the rainforest. When they sleep, they turn thier heads around and tuck their bills under their wings and tail. The toucan is very important to the rainforest because they help to disperse seeds from the fruits and berries they eat.

Red-Eyed Tree Frogs will grow to be 2 cm (males) and 3 -4 cm (females) in length. The Red-Eyed Tree Frog is well known for its bulging red eyes and beautiful blue streaks and orange toes. When the Tree Frog sleeps it hides its sharp colors, but if it runs from a predator the bright colors may confuse or disinterest the predator. Like many Tree Frogs, the Red-Eyed Tree Frog has suction cups on its toes that enable it to climb trees and on leaves
