UPS/PDU Replacement Project  Why? Replacing Aging Infrastructure. The PDUs were installed in the 80s.

Process  Orderly shutdown of nearly all servers and network infrastructure in the primary data center.  What will stay up? Core networking Radio Phones Predominantly, only those services that provide support to Public Safety.

SAN Replacement  Why? The City’s current storage environment is approaching the end of its useful life. Additionally, the organization has stretched the system’s capacity and capabilities to its limits.

Selection  The City is moving to a highly available EMC solution (VMaxe /10K) that provides: TB Total Tiered Capacity 2 – 128GB Engines 17 – 200GB Enterprise Flash Drives 98 – 300GB 15K Drives 42 – 2TB Drives  Brocade Fiber Channel Fabric – Up to 16GB  Support of new storage technologies like thin provisioning, storage tiers  Project was completed in 8 weeks

Backup Architecture  Adding a Second Backup Appliance with replication and removing tape.  Why? Instant Recovery for all departments; no need to encrypt, easier to administer; and no need for a offsite location to store tapes.

Automation – Account Management  Implemented process to notify a staff member and their manager two weeks before it will expire. (Interns, Non- Payroll, Contract)
