Period 1 – Advanced Treble Choir Period 2 – Beginning Treble Choir Period 3 – Advanced Mixed Chorus In this course, students build choral experience to expand vocal, technical, musical, and ensemble skills through rehearsal, performance, and study of high-quality choral literature. Singers focus on increasing knowledge of music theory, music literacy, and aesthetic response. Public performances may serve as a culmination of specific instructional goals.

1. Singing, alone and with others, a varied repertoire of music. 2. Performing on instruments, alone and with others, a varied repertoire of music. 3. Improvise melodies, variations, and accompaniments. 4. Compose and arrange music within specified guidelines. 5. Read and notate music. 6. Listen to, analyze, and describe music. 7. Evaluate music and music performances. 8. Understand relationships between music, other arts, and disciplines outside the arts. 9. Understand music in relation to history and culture.

PHYSICAL WARM-UP: Moderate stretching and bending exercises will open each rehearsal. The purpose of such exercises is to relax the muscle groups involved in singing. VOCAL WARM-UP: Various exercises will be used to increase vocal range, promote vocal flexibility, improve tone quality, promote consistent vowel production, strengthen pitch concept, and instill breath support. REPERTOIRE: Various musical styles and genres will be introduced. The difficulty level will range from unison to sixteen-part singing and will be determined by the ability of the group.

EAR TRAINING: Students will develop their listening skills during daily ear training exercises ranging from interval and chord recognition to rhythmic and melodic notation. THEORY: Students will learn the theoretical aspects of music, which will provide them with opportunities in compositional analysis and writing. SIGHT-SINGING: Students will be given daily rhythmic and melodic sight- singing material to gradually increase their proficiency level with musical notation. HISTORY: Students will learn the historical background and context of the music they perform. Students will also learn about the major musical periods and composers. In addition, students will learn about cultural connections and other influences of music.
