Comm Arts- Day 6 (5 mins) Please read the below paragraph. Then find the five incomplete sentences, fragments, and/or run-ons. Once you find them, write your corrections in your composition book. On the way to the game, I decided to stop for a hot dog and chips. The closest place was Steve’s General Store, they have roller dogs. A roller dog is a hot dog that is cooked on hot metal rollers, they are different from the kind that get microwaved or rotate on hot spokes. While I was very hungry for a hot dog. I didn’t know if a roller dog would satisfy my craving. Because they are left on the rollers for a very long time. They can be very gross. Some places don’t clean their hot dog roller often enough. Then they look disgusting. When I got to Steve’s. Their roller dogs looked perfectly cooked on clean rollers. My stomach will be happy!

Lesson Goal and Essential Question Lesson Goals: Essential Questions: Students will know that a claim/main idea should be supported with relevant evidence. Students will be able to support an opinion with facts. What makes a piece of writing effective? How do I support my opinion?

Based on the picture and video, what is one opinion you can draw and defend about Bethany Hamilton? T- D- E- D- E- C- 2/breakthrough-woman-bethany- hamilton-soul-surfer 2/breakthrough-woman-bethany- hamilton-soul-surfer

After Reading Jesse Owens… Jesse Owens did a lot to inspire others, but how do we prove it? We need to introduce the idea, support it, and explain it. Here’s an example: Jesse Owens is remembered for more than just his athleticism. “He had been a sprinter and a broad jumper, that much you understood; but there was something more than just his speed that made black folk, even people who cared nothing about sports, swell their chests a little bit at the mention of his name” (Taylor 39). THIS SHOWS he was remembered for more than just athletics because African Americans remembered him for his perseverance, and how he proved the racist beliefs of the day to be false.

Your Turn! (15 mins) Now, log on to edmodo, enter the Jesse Owens Claim Activity, and complete it in the reply box. You should read over ALL the directions and choose one of the challenges. If you have time, complete both!

Exit Ticket-Reflection (5 mins) Please go to edmodo and click on the quiz we took Friday, Fact and Opinion Formative. Review your score and answer these questions: What was your score? What did you do well? What is difficult for you? Post your response in a direct post to me.

Homework Today, you should have received your Collins words list back. Please keep these since you will be expected to spell all of your sixth grade words correctly, and you will be tested on your seventh grade words. If you received your list back and it says redo, please redo the words that are circled and resubmit. If your name is on the back board, please have your work in by flex, or you will spend time with me at lunch. Finally, please choose a pair of Collins words and make a vocab cartoon. Choices: Lets/Let’s, Its/It’s, Here/Hear, allowed/aloud, are/our, chose/choose, lose/loose, for/four, laid/led, know/no, since/sense, precede/proceed (Due Friday)
