THE ACT-PLAN TEST IS AN IMPORTANT TEST FOR CHS SOPHOMORES!

WHAT IS THE ACT-PLAN TEST? ProgramGrade Level Composite Score Range EXPLORE8 and 91 to 25 PLAN101 to 32 ACT11 and 121 to 36 The ACT-PLAN is the second part of a testing system that starts with EXPLORE and ends with the ACT. Typically, EXPLORE is given in 8th or 9 th grade, PLAN in 10 th, and the ACT in 11 th and 12 th All three test you in English, math, reading, and science. However, the material tested in each program gets more difficult and score ranges change.

WHY IS THE ACT-PLAN TEST IMPORTANT TO ME?

YOUR PLAN SCORE IS USED FOR PLACEMENT INTO ENGLISH, MATH, SCIENCE, AP, AND HONORS COURSES IN HIGH SCHOOL. IT ALSO DETERMINES WHETHER STUDENTS ARE ADMITTED INTO DUAL ENROLLMENT COURSEWORK, AS WELL AS THE MOTLOW DUAL -ASSOCIATE’S DEGREE PROGRAM.

THE PLAN TEST CONTAINS COLLEGE READINESS BENCHMARK SCORES TO HELP YOU UNDERSTAND WHERE YOU ARE ACADEMICALLY COMPARED TO OTHER SOPHOMORES AND WHERE YOU NEED TO BE WHEN YOU GRADUATE FROM HIGH SCHOOL.

YOUR PLAN SCORES ARE USED TO PREDICT HOW YOU ARE LIKELY TO DO IF YOU TAKE THE ACT IN 11 TH AND 12 GRADE, WHILE GIVING YOU A CHANCE TO WORK ON ANY AREAS OF NEED.

THE PLAN GIVES DETAILED, INDIVIDUAL INFORMATION ABOUT WHAT CAREERS AND COLLEGE MAJORS BEST SUIT YOUR ABILITIES, INTERESTS AND GOALS, AND WHETHER YOUR PREDICTED ACT SCORE CAN GET YOU THERE.

WHAT YOUR PLAN SCORE MEANS YOUR SCORES ARE BETWEEN 1 (THE LOWEST SCORE YOU CAN RECEIVE)AND 32 (THE HIGHEST SCORE YOU CAN RECEIVE). PLAN TAKES THE NUMBER OF QUESTIONS YOU GOT RIGHT ON EACH TEST AND TRANSLATES IT INTO A NUMBER BETWEEN 1 AND 32. YOUR COMPOSITE SCORE IS SIMPLY THE AVERAGE OF YOUR TEST SCORES IN ENGLISH, MATHEMATICS, READING, AND SCIENCE(ROUNDED TO A WHOLE NUMBER) THE TWO SCORES DIRECTLY UNDER ENGLISH AND MATH ONLY RANGE FROM 1 TO 16. THEY TELL YOU HOW WELL YOU DID IN TWO SPECIFIC AREAS OF EACH SUBJECT. THESE SCORES ADDED TOGETHER DO NOT NECESSARILY EQUAL YOUR ENGLISH OR MATH TEST SCORES.

TIPS FOR DOING YOUR BEST GET PLENTY OF SLEEP THE NIGHT BEFORE THE TEST. FOLLOW DIRECTIONS EXACTLY. MARK YOUR ANSWER FOLDER CAREFULLY. FILL IN THE OVALS NEATLY. DON'T SPEND TOO MUCH TIME ON ANY SINGLE QUESTION. FOR HARD ONES, CHOOSE THE ANSWER YOU THINK IS BEST AND MOVE ON. JUST LIKE THE ACT, THERE IS NO PENALTY FOR GUESSING. BE SURE TO ANSWER EVERY QUESTION. PRACTICE WITH THE SAMPLE TEST QUESTIONS.

GO TO THE SAMPLE TEST QUESTIONS When students understand the test format and see sample questions prior to the test, they earn higher scores.

Subject Number of Questions Time Allowed English 30 minutes Usage/Mechanics30 Rhetorical Skills20 Math 40 minutes Pre-Algebra/Algebra22 Geometry18 Reading2520 minutes Science3025 minutes The ACT-PLAN includes four multiple-choice sections: English, Math, Reading, and Science.
