Slaves By: Allison B.

Slave Plantations Plantations that slaves were forced to work on or be brutally punished. Rich people owned the plantations. The owner “owned” the slaves. The places that they lived in were barely big enough to house everyone.

What were they used for? To do work such as: Picked crops, took care of livestock, cleaned houses, prepared food, waited on the family, and protected the plantation while owner was away. They could be rented out or borrowed to other people. The guys would work in the field and if you were trusted you could work in the masters house and babysitting his children.

What was their working conditions? The working conditions were very hard and tough. They worked for little to nothing. If they were lucky and treated well they got two new outfits a year. As soon as you could walk or carry things you were out working. Long hard hours in the blazing sun or rain. If you didn’t do something right the first time you were punished and then told to do it again.

How people got slaves. They were brought overseas in cargo hold of ships and were given food and water once or twice a day if they were lucky. They rarely were able to come above unless to there destination. After getting to the place where people “needed” them they were auctioned off for money. They could be sold at anytime and could be taken away from there families without question.
