What is ALJC Turkey Relaunch Our proposal The ALJC Collection and the SELL deal

What is ALJC Turkey Relaunch Our proposal What is the ALJC(ALPSP Learned Journals Collection)? And ALPSP? – ALJC – a collection of 627 journals from 48 smaller ALPSP members, sold by Swets as a single package (single umbrella licence, single pricing model) – This product is the result of a unique partnership between Swets and ALPSP – International trade association for not-for-profit publishers (272 members in 27 countries)

What is ALJC Turkey Relaunch Our proposal The Collection 627 journals from 48 publishers: What is ALJC

Turkey Relaunch Our proposal How did the ALJC come about? – Smaller publishers having a problem selling to consortia – squeezed out by ‘Big Deals’ – Libraries wanted to support high quality, good value journals from smaller publishers – Consultation with members, libraries and those offering similar packages – Report by John Cox – Tender process – MOU between Swets and ALPSP

What is ALJC Turkey Relaunch Our proposal Swets’ Role – Organising the ALJC – Trial management – Exclusive Sales Agent for the ALJC – Sign the single customer licence agreement – Power of attorney – Customer subscription processing and administration – Publishers’ revenue payments – SwetsWise online content as delivery platform.

What is ALJC Turkey Relaunch Our proposal How did the SELL deal come about? – First discussion at the 2006 SELL annual meeting in Thessalonica. – CBUC volunteers to act as coordinator of SELL members for this deal. – First proposal presented to SELL representative in August after the 2008 ALJC list prices were announced. – Final proposal agreed and circulated to SELL members end of September – Second meeting with SELL members at the annual meeting of the European ICOLC in Rome in October – 2007 SELL/ALJC deal closed on December 4 th with 43 participants = discount of 55% on e-access fee.

What is ALJC Turkey Relaunch Our proposal List of participants:

What is ALJC Turkey Relaunch Our proposal Key to this success: – A deal that benefits all regardless the consortium or the country they belong to. – Understanding of the SELL members about the benefits of the ALJC package -> 1 license, 1 pricing model for 48 smaller publishers. – Simplify communication via the CBUC – Inclusion of 9 ANKOS members that already licensed ALJC in – Agreement with Heal-Link for a National license based on 22 members. – Interest of the Spanish institutions with 14 members

What is ALJC Turkey Relaunch Our proposal Status of the deal: – Heal-Link license signed in December – All other license in process. –Next week the holdings check will be finalized –E-content fee will be confirmed to participants –License will be sent for signature –Invoices will follow – Press released issued about the ALJC/SELL deal issued on March 5 th – Access to 60+ journals not yet available: –New 2007 journals – no back files available –New 2007 publishers experimenting problems with content uploading.

What is ALJC Turkey Relaunch Our proposal What is next – So far we don’t have any members in Portugal – Only 1 institution in Italy – Additions of new members will result in a higher discount for all in – 2008 price will be readjusted according to number of members on a given deadline

What is ALJC Turkey Relaunch Our proposal Thank you
