Male declaration on control and prevention of air pollution and its likely transboundary effects of south Asia Department Of Environment National Center of Air Pollution and Climate Change 1

History: Male deceleration on control and prevention of Air Pollution and its likely transboundry effects for south Asia was adopted by ministers of environment of south Asia in April Male declaration is one of the phase of the sida founded program on regional air pollution in developing countries Male declaration support by SEI, UNEP and SIDA and SACEP and PRC-AP and cooperation of department of the environment. 2

Male deceleration: Strengthen Regional cooperation for Air pollution issues in south Asia Strengthen the air pollution monitoring network. Enhance the impact assessment capacity issues Develop and / or adept strategies to prevent and minimize air pollution. Assist the member countries of MD with the developing air pollution reduction policies set up monitoring arrangements beginning with the study of sulphor and nitrogen and volatile organic compounds emission, Engage other key stakeholders for example industry, academic institutions, NGOs, communities and media etc. in the effort and activities. 3

Iran’s Activities: Phase I- baseline study includes: Carry out a baseline study Create a database on air pollution Investigation on current status of air pollution Baseline studies on recognition of sources of pollutants due to estimates. Compilation of experts data base 5

Phase II – Conducting preliminary meteorological studies on Iran for the establishment of stations. Implementing a study tour across the country and determining 8 proposed regions for the establishment of all stations related to the project as follow: Ilam province (west of Iran) Khuzestan province (south west of Iran) Khorasan province (north east of Iran) mazandaran province (north of Iran) Khuzestan province (south west of Iran) West Azerbaijan province (north west Iran) Sistan and Baluchistan province (south east of Iran) Considering the priorities, the first place for establishing a station was chamsari region in Ilam province with following. 6

Holding a training workshop on how to work with the equipment and analyze data for the experts of border province, which have been prioritized for the establishment of stations. Establishment of advisory committee: advisory committee was established in year 2002 in coordination with authorized persons due to proposed propositions in central office of these projects for site selection of air pollution monitoring station Establishing a station was chamsari region in Ilam province. This station is measured important pollutants such as PM, SO X and NO X. 7

D EHLORAN MONITORING STATION : Dehloran monitoring station has been established in 2004 based on criteria of Malé Declaration. This station is located in 40km far from south of Dehloran city and 5.5km to common boundary Iran – Iraq near to Chamsari village. The access to site is possible by Dehloran – Chamsari Asphalt road.
