NMC - MMC Joint Appointments  Positive aspects:  adjunct faculty and manager agree on release hours from staff position  adjunct faculty have time to teach while preserving full-time benefits at MMC  adjunct faculty grow and develop new skills  NMC does not experience a clinical faculty shortage  NMC students have instructors who are current practitioners  adjunct faculty have established relationship with MMC nurses  some adjunct faculty teach in addition to clinical duties

NMC - MMC Joint Appointments  Process: the staff nurse  discusses joint appointment possibility with manager  determines release time schedule if needed  interviews for and secures an adjunct faculty position  communicates release hours to the Director of Nursing Programs at NMC

NMC - MMC Joint Appointments  Process: the administration  verification form sent from NMC director of nursing to MMC manager before contract is set up  verification form identifies  instructor  specific course  dates of instruction  hours of release  salary amount

NMC - MMC Joint Appointments  Process: the administration  each course carries a college salary amount  any release time paid by MMC is at the instructor’s normal hourly rate  NMC reimburses MMC for the release time amount and subtracts it from the contract amount  any remaining course salary amount is paid directly to the instructor

NMC - MMC Joint Appointments  Problematic aspects:  can be more expensive for the college if the college must pay for benefits in addition to the hourly rate  can result in over or under payment to adjunct faculty member if process is not followed
