Control features Function To provide good legs To set up the next leg To avoid dog legs To avoid sensitive areas and lead to crossing points Competitors should find the feature first Then the control

Bingo Controls Accuracy of the map All reasonable attacked points are correct Green areas (open areas!)

Compass and pacing At best bearing accurate to +/- 5 degrees ie 40m over 400m Features probably map using a sighting compass +/- 1 degree. Cartography etc unlikly to be in the exact position Pacing only an aid.

Control Codes Allocate sequential number initially with controls descriptions in the field (form) Allocate codes when courses are finalised Avoid putting sequential control numbers together. Also on control descriptions

Starts On a mapped feature TD1-3 need to be a line feature TD1-2 need to be at a junction Ideally TD1-2 course set off north Don’t set first leg option back through the start Somewhere to warm up Distance to start??

Finish If using “navigate to finish” it must be on a mapped feature If not adjacent to download, man it-safety Finish low and near assembly
