Early Intervention / Early childhood intervention is a support system for children with developmental disabilities or delays and their families. Early intervention provides therapies for children with disabilities, to minimize delays and maximize their chances of reaching normal milestones in development. Early intervention begins from birth or first diagnosis until age three. Home

General Education Classroom / Students with special needs are educated in regular classes for most of the day, or at least half of the day. Specialized services are often provided outside the classroom, in which the student leaves the classroom to attend smaller, more intensive instructional sessions, or to receive other related service such as speech and language therapy, occupational and/or physical therapy, and social work in a resource room. Collaborative Classroom / The Collaborative Classroom has two or more educators in a classroom, a certified special ed teacher and general ed teacher, delivering or assisting in the daily lesson. The No Child Left Behind Act, more standardized testing and the inclusion laws require schools to find alternative ways to deliver instruction and meet the needs of a larger variety of students. Home Schooling / Home schooling is the education of children at home, typically by parents or tutors. Home schooling is a legal option for parents to provide their children with a learning environment as an alternative to publicly-provided schools. Parents cite numerous reasons to home school, including better academic test results, poor public school environment, improved character/morality development. It is also an option for families living in isolated rural locations or living abroad. Home

Alternative High School / Alternative schools are educational institutions with a curriculum and methods that are nontraditional. They have a special curriculum offering a more flexible program of study than a traditional school. A wide range of philosophies and teaching methods are offered by alternative schools. Alternative high schools accommodate students who are considered at risk of failing academically due to challenging behavior, special needs or emotional disabilities. Home

Residential School / Residential facility includes students who receive education in a public or private residential facility, at public expense, for more than 50 percent of the school day. Students with severe special needs may also live at the facility. Residential schools also accommodate homeless children and children with emotional or behavioral needs. Home

Talented and Gifted Program / Talented and Gifted is an academic program that caters to excelling students. The program may be found in various forms in schools around the world, often with the name "Talented and Gifted" (TAG) or "Gifted and Talented Education" (GATE). Availability and quality of formal programs varies from place to place. Classes may either be in the form of more challenging, in depth or advanced courses, or in the form of a regularly scheduled seminar that covers extracurricular material. Home

Juvenile Detention Facility / Juvenile Detention Facilities are maximum-security institutions for youth who are in need of being detained in a restrictive environment. The youth are either alleged to be delinquent or have been adjudicated delinquent. Educational programs are scheduled for all youth in the detention center.
