Cameras at war In the middle of the nineteenth century photography became a part of the war. Photos fulfilled the publics wonder about the war. The photos that were taken were military memories.

Roger Fenton He was sent to take photos of the war. The photos taken were taken to tell the U.S. how the war was.

In the Field Every soldier that went into battle knew what they were getting into. Where they were going was going to be cold, wet, muddy, and cunning.

Adviser The U.S. military limited its appearance to Vietnam to only advisors. They either fought in groups or alone. They learned about people dug tunnels. Groups or Alone

Tunnels Because they were digging tunnels this created a problem for the U.S. They pulled people from there stations to go in the tunnels. A nick-name for these people were “tunnel rats”.

One day at a time One of the most common types of illnesses is homesick. Nobody wants to be at war, So they tried to make the best of it.

Mail Mail is the most precious good that they have. Writing back to home was not easy. Sometimes they had to leave some of the mail behind for the next trip because there was not enough room.

Vietnam: People and Places Some of the people who were in Vietnam considered it not a part of the world. For instance they called it alien or unwanted. Some felt like the weight of the world were on their shoulders.

People Babies and children are irresistible. Mid-aged women are gentle and dainty. Old women are almost as old Asia itself.

Without War In the end they wonder what it would be like without war in their country.

Combat Photo’s Combat photographing is a burden. It is about impossible to take pictures of combat unless it is in the air. But even then the pictures wouldn’t be all that great.

Combat If you want to get badly hurt then you need to join Combat. This type of war it the dark, brutal heart of war. Photography is used in this type of war too.

In War When the people are out there, photographers try to focus their attention to small or individual groups. Photography combat is just a dangerous as Combat.

Good-byes Some of the American soldiers left Vietnam with mixed feelings. Some where so ready to leave that they counted the days. Some people were sad because their friends had died.

Faces at war The soldiers faces show self-respect, maturity, and confidence. Even though books tell you how the war went, only the faces of the men tell the true story.
