Case Study: Minas Gerais’ Climate Plan State Foundation for the Environment Energy and Climate Change Plan (PEMC)

Case Study: Minas Gerais’ Climate Plan PEMC Cross-sectoral mid-term policy ( ) whose main objectives are: (1) to promote the transition to a low carbon economy,(2) to reduce vulnerability to climate change, and (3) to articulate coherently different already developed and planned initiatives, within an integrated territorial strategy.

Observations Case Study: Minas Gerais’ Climate Plan 1.Questions concerning the origin of some data presented (by university professors and agriculture representatives); 2.Horizontal (environmental inspection vs agriculture) and vertical conflicts (agencies vs the government); 3.Different participation through the regions (5 in the Jequitinhonha vs 33 in Northwest); 4.Agreement among the stakeholders on the importance of include the society in public policy discussion. “It does not occur often and the policies eventually become unviable”.

Final considerations -Debates, exchanges and the discovery of solutions to address climate disruption; -Suited to the younger generations, through exhibitions, trails and educational workshops; -Respondents being able to present their activities to visitors. Space for stands and conference rooms; -Dialogue concerning everyday themes (habitat, mobility, education, green growth, the circular economy and innovation) and international solidarity; -Interactions between the negotiating area and the civil society area, particularly as access to information on the progress of negotiations throughout the two weeks of the Conference; -The media, including bloggers and community media, would also like to have a full presence in the civil society area.
