Managing your health at work

Give 2 reasons why it is important to maintain good health Why it is important for employees to maintain good health at work: Improves performance; reduces stress; reduces sick leave; reduces risk of injury; increases enjoyment of work; increased enjoyment of leisure time Task 1 Criteria 1.1

Give 2 reasons why it is important to maintain good health Exemplar Answer: It is important to maintain good health in a workplace to reduce sick leave. If staff health is improved then the amount of sickness days taken by staff will decrease. This will mean the productivity of the workplace increases and less money is spent on sick pay. Task 1 Criteria 1.1

Produce a leaflet that explains 5 examples of how to maintain good health. Your leaflet must give detail for each example and a practical example of how they can be achieved. How employees can maintain good health in the workplace: appropriate diet and exercise; reduce and report potential risks and hazards; wear correct protective clothing if required; take regular breaks, maintain work-life balance; manage ill health appropriately Task 2 Criteria 1.2

Produce a leaflet that explains 5 examples of how to maintain good health. Your leaflet must give detail for each example and a practical example of how they can be achieved. Exempla Answer: You should have an appropriate diet and exercise to maintain your health. For example, going for a walk during your lunch break or taking to stairs will help you to get more exercise. By keeping a food diary and making sure that you drink 8 glasses of water a day will help you to keep a healthy diet. Task 2 Criteria 1.2

Write a letter to employees to inform them of two different services that you provide to promote healthy working. Your letter must name the service and explain what the service is. Services employers can provide: first aid; health surveillance and medical check-ups; access to health support networks eg advice on dealing with addictions, counselling services; sick pay; health initiatives to benefit employees eg healthy eating campaigns in the workplace canteen, keeping active campaigns, subsidised gym memberships or bicycle purchases for staff, onsite gym or recreational facilities, free annual flu vaccinations at work. Task 3 Criteria 2.1

Describe three different sources of help that an employee can access to ensure healthy working. Your information must describe the sources and describe the service they provide. Sources of help: workplace occupational health; trade unions; Community occupational health; first aid officer; health and safety officer; support networks Services offered by sources of help: prevention of risks or hazards to health in the workplace; counselling for stress, addictions or any other personal difficulties; advice on rights and responsibilities in the workplace; Risk assessments; provision of specialist support equipment, first aid treatment to deal with injuries or medical incidents in the workplace Task 4 Criteria 2.1

Exemplar Answer : An employee can access first aid officers. A first aid officer can provide treatments for any injuries or medical incidents in the workplace. For example, if you are injured in the workplace, a first aid officer can be called and will assess your injury and administer treatment. Task 4 Criteria 2.1
