Life-Lessons from Job Job 1:20-21 20 Then Job arose, tore his robe, and shaved his head; and he fell to the ground and worshiped. 21 And he said: "Naked I came from my mother's womb, And naked shall I return there. The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; Blessed be the name of the Lord."

Introduction The book of Job is about a normal human being who is beset with suffering and misfortune James 5:11 Indeed we count them blessed who endure. You have heard of the perseverance of Job and seen the end intended by the Lord-- that the Lord is very compassionate and merciful. The key words – Patient, Endurance

First life-lesson: “Naked I came from my mother's womb” Life-Lessons from Job First life-lesson: “Naked I came from my mother's womb” All of us start with the same possessions Sign – I started with nothing. I still have most of it. Everyone has the same starting point. Everything we have came from God.

Second life-lesson: “And naked shall I return there.” Life-Lessons from Job Second life-lesson: “And naked shall I return there.” All of us leave this life with the same possessions as when we started. Possessions end at the cemetery. Luke 12:20-21 20 But God said to him, 'Fool! This night your soul will be required of you; then whose will those things be which you have provided?' 21 So is he who lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God."

Second life-lesson: “And naked shall I return there.” Life-Lessons from Job Second life-lesson: “And naked shall I return there.” Matthew 19:23-24 23 Then Jesus said to His disciples, "Assuredly, I say to you that it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. 24 And again I say to you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God."

Third life-lesson: “The Lord gave” Life-Lessons from Job Third life-lesson: “The Lord gave” All belongs to God Psalm 50:10-12 10 For every beast of the forest is Mine, And the cattle on a thousand hills. 11 I know all the birds of the mountains, And the wild beasts of the field are Mine. 12 "If I were hungry, I would not tell you; For the world is Mine, and all its fullness. Pray for your daily needs – Matthew 6:11 Give us this day our daily bread.

Third life-lesson: “The Lord gave” Life-Lessons from Job Third life-lesson: “The Lord gave” All belongs to God God knows how to give what we need Matthew 6:8 For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him. James 1:17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.

Fourth life-lesson: “The Lord has taken away” Life-Lessons from Job Fourth life-lesson: “The Lord has taken away” Our favorite word – MINE. We must learn to trust in God. We are clay in His hands. (Romans 9:20-21) The clay does not question the potter. We must trust the omniscience of God. (Omniscience = able to know all things)

Fifth life-lesson: “Blessed be the name of the Lord” Life-Lessons from Job Fifth life-lesson: “Blessed be the name of the Lord” We praise God because He cares for us. He gives us good and perfect gifts. We offer thanksgiving, love and praise. 1 Peter 5:6-7 6 Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, 7 casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.

QUESTIONS: What are true riches? Luke 16:11 Therefore if you have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches?

QUESTIONS: What are true riches? What will last forever? 2 Peter 3:10-11 10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up. 11 Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness

Where are you storing treasures QUESTIONS: What are true riches? What will last forever? Where are you storing treasures Matthew 6:19-20 19 "Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; 20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.

FINAL NOTE: Job possessed great riches, but his riches did not possess him. He remained faithful to God through good times and bad. Job 1:22 In all this Job did not sin nor charge God with wrong. Job 13:15 Though He slay me, yet will I trust Him. Even so, I will defend my own ways before Him.
