Daeboreum (Korean Full Moon Festival)

Why do people celebrate Daeboreum? This holiday is celebrated because the Koreans want to wish for a good and healthy new year. It is a handful of fun.

When is Daeboreum? Koreans celebrate Daeboreum on the fifteenth day of the first month of the lunar calendar when the moon is full. This year it will be on February 8.

What food do Koreans eat on Daeboreum? Koreans eat food like rice, fruits, nuts and corn. It is like a small feast. (It sounds like a lot of yummy food!)

Traditions Some of the traditions are the Koreans eat as many nuts as the number of years they have lived. They play games and laugh. It is fun. They stay up really late.

Geuybulnori (쥐불놀이) On Daeboreum kids used to play a game called Geuybulnori. They spun a can with charcoal fire in it. They did it to have healthy crops.
