3 Why should we care about social networking technologies?

Media habits are changing It took radio 38 years to reach 50 million listeners. Terrestrial TV took 13 years & the Internet took four years. In less than nine months, Facebook added 100 million users. (Shared slides from Thomas Listerman, USF Advancement)

Handheld devices increase In 2009, vendors shipped 174 million smartphones, up 15% from the 151 million in Internet usage via handheld devices grew by 41% from June 2008 to June

Rich media content is expected 86% of the Internet population, or 178 million people, viewed video online in December
