Input Devices Ali El-Achmar Matt Leclair TEJ20

What Are Input Devices? ● Input Devices are data going into the computer from the user.

Examples of Input Devices * Keyboard * Mouse * Touchpad * Trackball * Joystick * Game pad * Microphone * Graphics tablet * Camera * Scanner * USB Memory Stick

How does a Keyboard Work? A keyboard works by electrical switches. Each key reduces an electrical switch, which closes an electrical circuit. This makes the keystroke signal, which is made by the keyboard's onboard processing chip. Then chip converts the keystroke into a scancode.

How Does A Mouse Work? ● When the mouse is right side up, the ball and rollers work together to move the arrow on the screen. ● When you slide the mouse along a surface, the rubber ball rolls. ● The rolling ball turns the small rollers which move the arrow on the screen.

How does a Touch pad Work? A Touchpad operates in one of a few different ways, all of which demands sensing the capacity of a finger, or the capacity between sensors.

How Does a Trackball Work? A trackball works with light sensors and records the moving dots and send the data to the computer.

How Does A Joystick Work? ● The Joystick works by the printed wires in the circuit board beneath the stick which each connect to a different terminal and are bringing electricity from one part of the circuit to another. ● When the Joystick isn't being pushed in any particular direction, all but one of these circuits are detached.

How Does A Microphone Work? A microphone works by converting acoustical energies (sound waves) into electrical energy (the audio signal).

How Does a Graphics Tablet Work? A graphics tablet works by digital page which one can draw, as if drawing on paper with a pencil. The tablets capture the images as data which can be stored as a file or a document.

How Does a Camera Work? A Computer Camera works by a USB cable connecting into a USB port. The digital camera may take a picture, but the software is doing the work.

How Does a Scanner Work? A scanner works by scanning the document, duplicating the image and then saving the picture to your computer.

How Does A USB Memory Stick Work? A USB memory stick works by storing device equipped with flash memory and can be plugged into a universal serial bus such as a USB port on any desktop or laptop computer.
