The idea was conceived at a dinner party in a London Mansion in Construction of Titanic started in 1909,by White Starline managed by Lord James and J Bruce Ismay. RMS Titanic was a first class ocean liner complete with all modern facilities and amenities.

The construction was completed in 1912 at a cost of $7.5 million. RMS Titanic set sail on 10 th April 1912, from Southampton, England to New York. Unfortunately, it hit an iceberg and sank in the middle of its journey on April 14 th 1912 in the Atlantic Ocean. What really caused Titanic to sink? Titanic Continued

Construction RMS Titanic was designed to be largest and safest ship on the waters. The method used in constructing Titanic was very high end A and sophisticated. The construction included 16 compartments that were said to be water tight. Steel doors were included which were supposed to have been capable of being shut in 25 seconds or less.

Some Interesting Facts

The Titanic was 882 feet long and weighed tons. Passengers on board:2228, Crew on board:885 Each first class passenger paid $4,350 for a parlor suite ticket. Remember this was in 1912! The ship consumed 825 tons of coal in one day.

The ship contained a heated swimming pool, a first of its kind. The ship was loaded with only 20 lifeboats The limited lifeboats were lowered to the waters only half-full. Out of 2228 passengers:1523 perished, 705 survived and 306 bodies were recovered.

How and Why Did It Sink? 1 The causes of RMS Titanic to sink have been subject of much study and debate. 2 The instigating factor was the collision of Titanic with an ice berg. The instigating factor was the collision of Titanic with an ice berg. 3 On the night of April 14th, Titanic received ice berg warning reports from neighboring ships. 4 There was no operational or safety reason to slow down or alter course or was there?

7 The ship finally collided the ice berg and the massive rip was torn parallel across the ship’s hull. This was just the beginning. 8 An SOS was sent out to a neighboring ship and CARPATHIA picked up the distress call. It would take Carpathia 4 hours to reach Titanic. 5 The captain did not pay heed to the warnings issued. It was said that the look outs did not even have binoculars that night. 6 It plowed ahead through the waters with great speed instead of slowing down and/or changing its course.

Titanic started sinking at 11.45pm and by 2.40am Titanic was completely submerged in the ice cold water of the Atlantic. The tragic sinking of the RMS Titanic and stories of both those who survived and those who lost their lives will forever be remembered with nostalgia and sadness on this its 100 th anniversary.

The Search For Titanic On Sept. 1, 1985, the wreck of the Titanic was found lying upright in two pieces on the ocean floor at a depth of about 4,000 meters (about 13,000 feet). The Titanic wreck is located 1000 miles East of Boston MA For the next several months numerous sketches of the Titanic ship were developed based on the initial Titanic wreck photos taken that day.

The remains of Titanic were found in 1985 by Dr. Robert Ballard, an oceanographer and marine biologist with the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution.

Let’s set sail and return to Titanic !

In 1997 Director James Cameron made a movie about the tragic sinking of TITANIC. It was not the first movie to be made on this incident. Prior to it in 1959, a movie “NIGHT TO REMEMBER” was released. The Titanic movie earned its place in film history as the most nominated movie with 14 Oscar nominations. It won 11 awards.

Since its release, the movie has been surrounded with controversy. The movie was fairly accurate in its attempt to portray the actual sinking of Titanic. Some say however, the facts are not straight.
