English for Business Communication (ENG101 X 3) Drawing on the extensive media assets of the Financial Times and other sources, this course offered a highly authoritative and flexible range of material for business English learners. This course was designed to develop real-life communicative skills and powers of self expression through constant real-time interaction. Academic English (LAN101 X 3) The primary focus of this course was to encourage students to engage critically with the language, whether spoken or written, and to question the validity of ideas. Emphasis was placed on recognizing fact from opinion and detecting author bias. As such, it covered issues of purpose and style while allowing students plenty of focused practice with short writing exercises. The course was organized to review the basic elements of written communication that are involved in technical writing tasks and engage students in editing, revising, and evaluating technical writing. General Advanced English (LAN100 X 2) This was an integrated skills course designed to help students build upon their existing competence in English. The course focused on the reading, writing and speaking skills students need to function effectively in an academic environment, with special focus on vocabulary acquisition. Students were encouraged to improve their oral communication through delivering informative presentations.
