Assistive technology device means any item, piece of equipment, or product system, whether acquired commercially off the shelf, modified, or customized, that is used to increase, maintain, or improve the functional capabilities of a child with a disability. The term does not include a medical device that is surgically implanted, or the replacement of such device. §300.5 Assistive technology service. See for a full list of AT ‘services’ as outlined in IDEA 2004http://nichcy.org/schoolage/iep/meetings/special-factors#AT

Asperger Syndrome (AS) Unlike the severe withdrawal from the rest of the world that is characteristic of autism, children with Asperger syndrome are isolated because of their poor social skills and narrow interests. What specific job/educational tasks are problematic as a result of these limitations? What accommodations are available to reduce or eliminate these problems? Can the individual with Asperger Syndrome provide information on possible accommodation solutions? Once accommodations/technology are in place, would it be useful to meet with the individual to evaluate the effectiveness of the accommodations and to determine whether additional/different accommodations are needed? Technology Considerations Goal Set: Social Skills – does the adult need review? Mind Reading: covers the entire spectrum of human emotions. Using the software you can explore over 412 emotions, seeing and hearing each one performed by six different people. There are also mini-stories to provide contexts. There are 2472 faces, 2472 voices and 2472 stories, all about emotions. Mac and Windows Copyright © 2012 ALLTech YES – Diligent

Technology Considerations Goal Set: Social Functioning Copyright © 2012 ALLTech The Sosh framework divides social functioning into five areas essential to social skills development and success: The “5 R’s” Relate (Connect with others) Regulate (Manage behaviors) Reason (Think it through) Relax (Reduce stress) Recognize (Understand feeling)

Technology Considerations Goal Set: Motor While motor difficulties are not a specific criteria for Asperger's, children with Asperger's Disorder frequently have motor skill delays and may appear clumsy or awkward. Digital Pen: LiveScribeLiveScribe AT Demonstration Dragon NaturallySpeaking
