The purpose of the SBNI is to coordinate and ensure the effectiveness of what is done by each person or body represented on the Board for the purposes of safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

Accountability  Political  Public – meetings held in public with confidential matters deferred to a confidential session  Organisational  Professional Chairperson reporting directly to Minister is expected to demonstrate:  Independence  Adherence to legislative principles and guidance  A difference

Committees of the SBNI Legislation requires:  5 Safeguarding Panels, co terminus with Trusts  Child Death Overview Panel (CDOP)  Case Management Review Panel Amongst other issues the Board will consider;  Policy and Procedures  Communication  Education and Training  Effectiveness  Governance
