Feedback Hanham Needs Assessment

Results of the Hanham Needs Assessment Survey The following graphics represent responses to the survey for which 450 completed forms were analysed. The below bar chart represents the breakdown of ages of those young people who responded to the survey, of which 56% were male and 44% were female. What do you do in your spare time now? Friends, 37.1% Sport, 32.5% Other, 13.0% Street, 10.3% Computer, 7.0% 412 (91.5%) of young people responded to the question of what young people do in their spare time now and where do they go to do it, of which the majority of 153 (37.1%) said that they spend it with friends. The second largest response was 134 (32.5%) of young people who said that they spent their time playing sports.

Do you have difficulties in accessing activities? Cost, 37.4% Other reasons, 33.0% Transport, 14.8% Local availability, 14.8% 89% of those who replied to this question did not indicate they had difficulties in accessing activities. 81 young people answered this question, of which the majority of 30 (37.4%) said that it was due to cost.

Responses to activities that young people may be involved with (expressed as a percentage of number of response forms completed). This graph indicates how many young people responded to these questions as a percentage of completed forms received and may give you some idea of which of these suggestions are most important to them.

Volunteering activities At a club, 51.3% At a School, 21.5% In the community, 18.3% Other, 7.6% Uniformed groups, 1.3% 158 (35.1%) of young people responded to the above question, of which the majority, 81 (51.3%) of those said they would prefer to volunteer at a club, followed by 34 (21.5%) who said that they would like to volunteer at a school. We asked young people whether they would be interested in opportunities to volunteer in their community

Sport/Fitness activities Football, 29.2% Swimming, 24.4%Other, 18.1% Archery, 8.9% Cricket, 8.9% Martial Arts, 5.8% Aerobics, 4.7% 381 (84.7%) of young people responded to the above question, of which the majority, 111 (29.2%) of those said they would wish to become involved in football, closely followed by 93 (24.4%) of young people who said swimming We asked young people whether they would be interested in sporting/opportunities

Free to User Activities Climbing Wall, 31.1% Cycle track, 21.1% Adventure playground, 18.9% Fitness Trail, 11.1% Sports Coaching, 10.3% Other, 7.5% 270 (60%) of young people responded to the above question, of which the majority, 84 (31.1%) of those said that they were interested in a climbing wall, closely followed by 57 (21.1%) who said a cycle track.

Performing Arts Dance, 30.6% Drama, 25.3% Music, 23.4% Singing, 11.7% Other, 9.0% 265 (58.9%) of young people responded to the above question, of which the majority, 81 (30.6%) of those said that they were interested in dance, followed by drama with 67 (25.3%) young people.

Multimedia Internet, 31.0% Photography, 26.4% Film Making, 23.4% DJ’ing, 11.9% Other, 7.3% 261 (58%) of young people responded to the above question, of which the majority, 81 (31%) of those said that they were interested in using the internet, followed by photography with 69 (26.4%) young people.

Wheels BMX, 51.5% In line skates, 16.0% Other, 11.4% Scooters, 11.0% Skateboarding, 10.1% 237 (52.7%) of young people responded to the above question, of which the majority, 122 (51.5%) of those said that they were interested in BMX’ing followed by 38 (16%) who said they were interested in using in-line skates.

Outdoor pursuits Climbing, 43.5% Mountain Biking, 37.5% Trekking, 11.6% Other, 7.4% 216 (48%) of young people responded to the above question, of which the majority, 94 (43.5%) of those said that they were interested in climbing closely followed by 81 (37.5%) who said they were interested in mountain biking.

Conservation/Environment Fishing, 40.6% Gardening, 15.6% Recycling, 14.0% Bushcraft, 13.5% Nature Watching, 9.6% Other, 6.7% 207 (46%) of young people responded to the above question, of which the majority, 84 (40.6%) of those said that they were interested in fishing, followed by 32 (15.6%) who said they were interested in gardening.

We gave young people an opportunity to prioritise what was important to them (64%) of young people responded to this question
