ApplicationXtender Quickly capture, organize, and deliver fixed-content images, documents, reports, and other business-critical information.

About AppXtender ApplicationXtender (AppXtender) is a content management system that uses image processing to bring large amounts of data online in a cost-effective manner. ApplicationXtender Document Manager (AppXtender Document Manager), AppXtender’s end user desktop and web access modules, can be used to create, enhance, store, retrieve, and output any type of document. You can use AppXtender Document Manager to add documents and pages AppXtender through scanning, importing, faxing, using the Windows Clipboard, or inserting objects from other applications. Once a document has been added to the AppXtender database, it can be retrieved and accessed so that you can work with the document. For example, you may need to fax a copy to someone, add an electronic signature, or annotate the document.

ApplicationXtender Architecture Windows Server Database DB2, SQL, Oracle, etc. Used for storing information Windows Client (s) Used for management and access to content The ApplicationXtender architecture consists of: ApplicationXtender software that resides on a Windows 2003 Standard or Enterprise Server A Windows Desktop client running Windows XP Professional or Windows Vista, for management and access to content A database for storing index values for documents and applications and other important operating information; ApplicationXtender supports many databases including Microsoft SQL, MySQL, Oracle, and DB2 Disk storage device on Windows Server for storing documents, images, COLD information, etc. Note to Presenter: Because ApplicationXtender relies on Microsoft Windows and does not require a complex operating environment, customers will: Find that it is a perfect fit with IT capabilities and capacity Easily implement ApplicationXtender and integrate it with existing systems Achieve a rapid return on investment Now that we’ve covered the basic features, functions, and benefits of ApplicationXtender, let’s take a look at an important challenge that it can solve. Indexes

Document Storage Locations California Accounts Payable Documents ApplicationXtender ApplicationXtender Server Database(s) DB2, SQL, Oracle, etc. Used for storing information Unlike document indexes for AppXtender applications, which are stored in a database, the actual document files (scanned images and text files, for example) are stored in a directory designated by the administrator as the application’s document write path. AppXtender applications can be configured to store documents to any storage device that can be mapped by the AppXtender workstation. This includes devices such as a network file server, local hard disk, or erasable and WORM optical media. Displaying and Storing Documents in AppXtender Documents are stored in their native format! Documents are displayed as shown below: Icon View launches document in authoring application KeyView Viewer You can store any type of file in AppXtender. Depending on the file type, AppXtender stores the file as a supported file type such as image or text, or as an unsupported file type such as foreign or OLE. When files are created in AppXtender, AppXtender verifies the file type and then stores the file as the identified type (such as image, text, foreign file format). Many of the functions available in AppXtender are file-type dependent. Because AppXtender is geared toward providing access to as many useful functions as possible, features are provided that can be used to work with particular file types. However, these functions are frequently not available when you are working with other file types. A good example of this is the Enhance Image function. If you are viewing a scanned image of an invoice, for example, it might be very helpful to use image enhancement to clean up the image and make it easier to read. However, when you are working with a Microsoft Word document stored as a foreign file, image enhancement is not available (because it would not be of any use with the Microsoft Word document). AppXtender has the capability to display file types in a variety of ways. The content of supported file types can be displayed in the Document Display view. Depending on your AppXtender configuration, an unsupported file type can be displayed as an icon representing a foreign file, through KeyView Viewer support, or in its native application in the Document Display view. Indexes Natively supported files can be displayed in Document Display View Unsupported file types can be displayed as an icon representing a foreign file or through KeyView Viewer support

Accessing Documents stored in AppXtender Documents can be stored, retrieved, and processed through AppXtender Desktop and AppXtender Web Access client interfaces. ApplicationXtender The AppXtender Document Manager and AppXtender Web Access are the modules most frequently accessed by users. Documents are stored, retrieved, and processed within these modules. AppXtender is password protected, which means that it monitors each user’s activity and allows or denies access to certain information and functions based on that user’s assigned privileges. Privileges—such as the ability to display, print, fax, modify, or delete—are assigned to a user’s account by the administrator. AppXtender has varying levels of security, from initial login to document level. The administrator can assign full system rights for all applications or different rights from one application to another. For example, a user may have full privileges for the "Purchase Orders” application but only display and print privileges for the "Human Resources" application. Each user account is driven by the user name and password, making this information required when logging on to the system. If you have not been assigned an AppXtender user name and password, consult your AppXtender system administrator to obtain a user account. AppXtender Security and Permissions Active Directory, LDAP, or AX Security ApplicationXtender AppXtender is password protected, which means that it monitors each user’s activity and allows or denies access to certain information and functions based on that user’s assigned privileges. For example, a user may have full privileges for the "Purchase Orders” application but only display and print privileges for the "Human Resources" application. User and group permissions can be set on an application by application basis or globally for all applications. All user actions with the repository can be captured in audit trails.

ApplicationXtender Media Distribution EMC Documentum ApplicationXtender Media Distribution enables you to distribute ApplicationXtender content via CD to third parties, whether or not they use ApplicationXtender. ApplicationXtender Media Distribution can also be used for internal distribution when web access is not possible—or simply to take a snapshot of content at a given moment for archival purposes.
