Mission Sunday: “GO!” Northside Mission Church (26-Feb-2012)

For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, “The just shall live by faith.”” (Romans 1:16-17) Our Proclamation

The Great Commission (Read Matthew 28:16-20) The final words of Jesus to his disciples This is the Great Commission!

Before Matthew 28 Matthew 27:63 Saying, “Sir, we remember while He was still alive, how that deceiver said, “After three days I will rise.””

Before Matthew 28 Non-believers seem to have more faith than the disciples that Jesus would rise from the dead!

The Great Suggestion? 1. They are a command – not a suggestion! The commission of the Church is not to wait for the world to come to us, but to go out to the world!

The Great Suggestion? 2. These commands are given to every follower of Jesus! This is not just for the “professionals” – the ministers, pastors, missionaries, etc.

The Great Omission? To fail to do so could be considered sin! The sin of omission (James 4:17)

The Great Omission? (Read Mark 16:15) Jesus didn’t say “Go into all the world and be a good example”

Is Speaking necessary? (Read 1 Corinthians 1:21 & Romans 10:14) Paul didn’t say “foolish preaching” but “the foolishness of preaching”

Is Speaking necessary? Q: What are we to preach? The Gospel! Jesus is not just the great additive to a person’s life to make it a little better. He is the Saviour who can forgive them of all their sins!

What is the Gospel? A different gospel is being preached – a “holistic gospel” The Gospel is about the life, death and resurrection of Jesus from the dead (Read 1 Corinthians 15:1-8)

What is the Gospel? “We do not need to get worked up about global warming. We need to be far more concerned about a global warning - that people need Jesus Christ and they need to turn to Him.”

The iGospel The iGospel – go into all of your world and reach into your own sphere of influence with the Gospel!

The iGospel Fact: Surveys show that 95% of Christians have never led another person to Christ

“Make disciples…” (Read Colossians 1:28) We invite people to follow Christ and we must help them go to their feet spiritually and to move forward. That is our job!

“Make disciples…” New believers are like newborn babies! 1.New Believers need protection (Read Galatians 4:19) 2. New Believers need fellowship (Saul who later become the apostle Paul)

“Make disciples…” 3. New Believers need food 4. New Believers need training (Read 1 Thessalonians 2:11-12) (Read Deuteronomy 6:7)

Am I a disciple? (Read Luke 14:26-35) Some of the most some of the most soul- searching words that have ever fell from the lips of Jesus Three times Jesus said that if we don’t do these things, we cannot be His disciple

Am I a disciple? 1. The disciple must love Jesus more than anyone or anything (Luke 14:26) 2. The disciple must deny himself, take up his cross daily and follow Jesus (Luke 14:27; 9:23-24) 3. The disciple must count the cost (Luke 14:28)

Am I a disciple? We live in an “ABC” age – “Anything-But-Christ”!

“Plugged in & switched on?” Question: Are we plugged in to the Holy Spirit? Acts 1:8 “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

“Plugged in & switched on?” “We can either evangelize or we can fossilize” – Greg Laurie Take all the Words of God and go into all your world (your sphere, your circle) and preach the Gospel and make disciples!
