8/6/201515 What Happens at the Point of Baptism? What Happens at the Point of Baptism?

8/6/201516 We are placed “in Christ” (1 Corinthians 12:13; Galatians 3:27) We’re associated with the death of Christ (Colossians 2:12) We are raised to a new life (2 Corinthians 5:17; Colossians 2:12) We are placed “in Christ” (1 Corinthians 12:13; Galatians 3:27) We’re associated with the death of Christ (Colossians 2:12) We are raised to a new life (2 Corinthians 5:17; Colossians 2:12) “Then Peter said to them, "Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” (Acts 2:38)

8/6/201517 We will not be baptized if we do not believed it necessary, as commanded by Jesus Christ. However, in your daily life as a Christian, it helps to remember what takes place when we are baptized. When we are baptized, here is what happened to us: THE WAY OF SALVATION

8/6/201518 We are saved. (Mark 16:16; 1 Peter 3:21) Our sins are forgiven. (Acts 2:38) We were baptized into Jesus Christ. (Galatians 3:26,27; 1 Corinthians 12:13) We were baptized into Jesus death. (Romans 6:3-4) Our sins are washed away. (Acts 22:16)

8/6/201519 It is important to note that baptism ALONE does not save us. To say that baptism alone saved us would be like saying that faith alone saved us or that repentance alone saved us. Neither would be a scriptural claim. Our obedience to Jesus’ command to be baptized works with our belief, our repentant change and the confession of our faith to save us.

8/6/201520 Once One Becomes A Christian A “disciple” Acts 11:26; John 8:31-32 A “member” of the Lord’s body Acts 2:41, 47; 1 Corinthians 12:12-13 A life-long commitment to the Lord Colossians 1:21-23; 2:6 Has the hope of heaven! 1 Peter 1:3-4 A “disciple” Acts 11:26; John 8:31-32 A “member” of the Lord’s body Acts 2:41, 47; 1 Corinthians 12:12-13 A life-long commitment to the Lord Colossians 1:21-23; 2:6 Has the hope of heaven! 1 Peter 1:3-4 Agrippa was “almost” persuaded to become a Christian WHAT ABOUT YOU? Agrippa was “almost” persuaded to become a Christian WHAT ABOUT YOU?

8/6/201521 Gods terms. 1) Salvation is found in the Gospel. Romans 1:16;. a) The Gospel is to be believed. 1 Corinthians 15:1-6; b) The gospel is to be Obeyed. 2 Thessalonians 1:8; c) The gospel is to be preached. Mark 16:15-16; 2) Salvation is for ANYONE who accepts the gospel. 1 Timothy 2:3-4 3) Salvation is made available by Gods grace; it is obtained through mans obedient faith. 4) Salvation is possessed NOW by those who are IN Christ 1 John 5:13. THE WAY OF SALVATION - Summary

8/6/201522 WRONG CONCEPTS 1. I merit it 2. I must keep the law or I will be lost 3. I must go to meet with my brothers and sisters out of duty 4. I must obey God out of fear 5. 23 06/08/201523 WAY OF SALVATION INVOLVES MERCY GRACE THE BLOOD OF JESUS SANCTIFICATION REMAINING FAITHFULL JESUS IS ALIVE! FAITH REPENTANCE BAPTISM CONFESSION LOVE OF GOD JUSTIFICATION BY GOD CONVICTION OF SIN THE WORK OF HOLY SPIRIT THE WORD OF GOD

8/6/201524 A brief summary of the way of salvation. The purpose of our belief: To direct us to obey God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. The purpose of our repentance: To turn us to Jesus Christ and His teachings, turning away from our sinful activities of the past and staying away from them in the future. The purpose of our confession: To show that we were not (and are not) ashamed of Jesus Christ and our belief in Him. THE WAY OF SALVATION

8/6/201525 A brief summary of the way of salvation. The purpose of our baptism: Baptism is the final act of our obedience so that we might be saved. It was that which put us into the body of Christ, the church. It results in the forgiveness of our sins. It was that from which we rise to walk in a newness of life, serving only the Lord. THE WAY OF SALVATION

8/6/201526 We need to strive to make certain that we are following up on the purpose of our salvation. Remember, we are to walk in a newness of life, serving only the Lord. We are to turn away from sin on a daily basis, striving with God's help to say no to any and all forms of temptations. We need to continue to build our faith in Jesus Christ and continue to proclaim that faith so that others might believe.

8/6/201527 Homework. 1. Chain reference on Salvation Ephesians 2:6-8; Romans 6:23; 1 John 5:13; John 3:36; Hebrews 5:8-9; Mark 16:16;. 2.
