INDIANAUNIVERSITYINDIANAUNIVERSITY Viewing Permissions Specify which users have access to view your XML and RSS content:  ADS Group  All users  Safeword Users  Primary Student Role  Role  Campus  Campus & Role  Other Permissions

INDIANAUNIVERSITYINDIANAUNIVERSITY Publishing Permissions  Publishing permissions are set for XML content, XML includes, XML datasources, RSS feeds, and My Groups Pages.  Specify which ADS groups have access to make modifications to your content

INDIANAUNIVERSITYINDIANAUNIVERSITY Using Permissions  Available when creating/editing XML includes and datasources  Allows you to specify which ADS groups can use your XML include or datasource on their XML content

INDIANAUNIVERSITYINDIANAUNIVERSITY Portal Content-XML fields  Title: Provide a title for the portal content.  Description: Provide a brief description of the portal content.  Contact Provide an address for troubleshooting and content clarification.  Category: Select a category in which the portal content will be placed.

INDIANAUNIVERSITYINDIANAUNIVERSITY Portal Content-XML fields, continued  Search Keywords (optional): Keywords used during OneStart searches.  Active: Contents only appear on pages when set to “active”.  Active Begin Date (optional): Select an initial date to display the content in the OneStart portal. Overrides “active” setting.  Active End Date (optional): Select a final date to display the content in the OneStart portal. Overrides “active” setting.

INDIANAUNIVERSITYINDIANAUNIVERSITY Content Source  Content Location: Select OneStart Database to store content on OneStart servers  Remote URL (optional): Only necessary if you’re storing content (xml file) in a remote location  Refresh Interval in Minutes (optional): If storing content in a remote location, set how often OneStart should retrieve it  XML: Insert your XML code here (We’ll cover XML content coding in the next class)

INDIANAUNIVERSITYINDIANAUNIVERSITY Visual Presentation Options  Show Borders: Display borders around the content  Show Header: Display the content header  Show Title: Display the title of the content in the header  Show Options Drop Down: Display a drop down box that provides the users with additional viewing options, and the ability to add the content to their preferred content list  Show Contact in More Info: Display contact at the bottom of the content  Show Sponsor's Website in More Info: Display sponsor's web link at the bottom of the content

INDIANAUNIVERSITYINDIANAUNIVERSITY Visual Presentation Options, continued  Use Padding: Create a line space at sides of the content.  Remove Decoration on Zoom: Removes borders, heading, options on zoom.  Column Width: Select a column size to display the content. Any Size Column: Can display the content in any size columns. Wide Column Only: Display the content at wider columns (column size of 1, 1/2, or 2/3); suitable for tables and charts.

INDIANAUNIVERSITYINDIANAUNIVERSITY Links/Includes: Content Navigation Links  Allows for tab navigation of content-pages within your XML  Link Label: Title for the content-page that appears on the tab  Link Value: the content-page number specified in XML  Will discuss content-pages in greater depth in XML content class

INDIANAUNIVERSITYINDIANAUNIVERSITY Create XML Include  Reusable blocks of XML  Can be used in your any of your XML contents  Commonly used variables, content pages, or any primary XML tag

INDIANAUNIVERSITYINDIANAUNIVERSITY Create XML Datasource  Name: Name in OneStart for the datasource. This will be referenced in your XML contents.  Username: Your normal username to access your datasource.  Password/Confirm Password: Your password to connect to your datasource.  Driver: OneStart supports Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, and MySql.  Url: Source URL to connect to the data driver.  Validation Query: verifies the current datasource pulled from the pool is available.

INDIANAUNIVERSITYINDIANAUNIVERSITY Publish RSS  Very similar to XML Content publishing, main difference is RSS source section  RSS Source Settings: URL: Provide a web link that connects to the particular web resource. " is required. Ex: Refresh Interval in Minutes: Set a time to refresh the interval which is in minutes; the default setting is 60 minutes.

INDIANAUNIVERSITYINDIANAUNIVERSITY Publishing Exercise #2  In Eclipse, see the file "portletTraining/Exercises/PublishingExercise 2.xml"  Create an XML content using this xml file and set the title as: "Publishing Exercise 2 "  Make it viewable to all users and give publishing permissions to the ADS group BL- UITS-ONESTART2-TRAINING

INDIANAUNIVERSITYINDIANAUNIVERSITY Add Content to a Page  Click Add Content  Select the category of the content you wish to add  Select the content  Click Add this content  Choose the column in which to place the content

INDIANAUNIVERSITYINDIANAUNIVERSITY Move Content on a Page  While in a page's edit mode, click the arrows to shift content in that direction.

INDIANAUNIVERSITYINDIANAUNIVERSITY Remove Content from a Page  While in a page's edit mode, click the red 'X' to remove the content.

INDIANAUNIVERSITYINDIANAUNIVERSITY Announcements  Published at the top of your page, above contents  Displayed to visitors of your page who meet the announcement's permissions  Can be acknowledged by users  Supports HTML.

INDIANAUNIVERSITYINDIANAUNIVERSITY Publishing Exercise #3  Put the XML content you created in Exercise #2 on the left column of your My Group page.  Move the content to the right column.  Create an announcement on the page that says "Welcome to training!"
