What are we understanding today? The Organizational pattern of essays

Why is it important to know the organizational pattern of an essay? Good writers are able to write organized essays to maintain coherency.

Organizational pattern means sequence Share how to organize these sentences with your partner? Organizational pattern (1)As he was riding he hit a bump and fell off his bike. (2)He picked himself up and went home so his mom could clean up his knee and put on a band-aid. (3)John went on a bike ride. (4)John scrapped up his knee and knew he needed a band -aid. 3, 1, 4, 2

Organizational Pattern of Paragraphs Step 1: read all the paragraphs Step 2: Look for signal words or phrases that signal time Step 3: Place paragraphs in order beginning with introduction and ending with conclusion (1) All her teammates were preparing for the game. They sat in circle and stretched their legs and arms. Sarah ran to join them. (2)Finally the game was about to begin. Everyone huddled around the referee and watched him blow the whistle and toss the ball in the air. Cheers filled the air that signaled it was going to be an exciting game. (3)It was a beautiful morning when Sarah arrived at the Park. She was excited to play in her first soccer game.

Show me what you know! Step 1- read paragraphs Step 2 –look for signal words Step 3- Place paragraphs in order (1) I had a dream last night that I was five inches tall. In my dream, I climbed down from my bedpost and onto the floor. I couldn’t believe how small I was! (2) When I woke up from my dream, I smiled as I remembered it. Them I looked inside my dollhouse and wondered, “How did those cookie crumbs get in there?” (3) I walked over to my dollhouse and through the front door. Everything was just my size! I arranged all the furniture and decided to live in my dollhouse forever. I went up to the doll room and stretched out on the tiny bed, I fell asleep. 1, 3,2

Closure (1)When we got to the zoo, we learned that our job was to help feed the elephants. We set off to find the zoo keeper. The first thing he did when we joined him was herd the elephants into a feeding barn. (2)A few days each month, my mother volunteers at the zoo. Last week she said I could help. That made me happy! (3)Our job was to bring the hay into the barn. To do this needed a tractor. My mom drove the tractor and we loaded the bales of hay. (4)At the end of the day, I realized that helping at the zoo is difficult work, but I like knowing that I am helping animals. Some day I hope to feed the animals all by myself 2, 1, 3,4
