Presentation transcript:

“…For Christ, our Passover is, sacrificed and for us: Therefore let us keep feast… I Corinthians 5:7-8

I. Historical meaning Remember that the Jewish people began celebrating the Passover on the first anniversary of their freedom from Egypt through Moses’ leadership. For 430 years (Exodus 12:40) or 400 years( Acts 7:6) the Jewish people’s bondage continued in Egypt. Origins of the Jewish Passover in Egypt. ( Exodus 7- 12).

II. The Symbols of The these things Old Testament ( Exodus 12:5- 7) New Testament Lamb must be without blemish. Male(one year old). The two side posts and the upper doorpost of the house. The lamb’s blood. The unleavened bread. Unleavened –no yeast. …yet without sin(Hebrews 4:5). Jesus(male) was weak and was killed on the cross, but he now lives by the power of God(2 Cor.13:4). Jesus’ blood(1John 1:7). I am the bread of life(John 6:48).

III. Jesus still keeps the Passover of the Feast in remembrance of his name forever. “ 17 Now the first day of the feast of unleavened bread the disciples came to Jesus, saying unto him, Where wilt thou that we prepare for thee to eat the passover? 18 And he said, Go into the city to such a man, and say unto him, The Master saith, My time is at hand; I will keep the passover at thy house with my disciples. 19 And the disciples did as Jesus had appointed them; and they made ready the passover.” Matthew 26:17-19

IV. Through Christ we will be saved by God’s wrath. Why? Because we were God’s enemies. God shows his great love for us in this way: Christ died for us while we were still sinners. Rom.5:8 God’s wrath is that we are his enemies. Through Christ we will be saved from God’s wrath. We make right with God by the blood of Christ’s death. We become friends again with God through Christ’s life. Paul’s summary of Romans 5:5-11 END
