Kindergarten Orientation Welcome, Parents!

Kindergarten Expectations Based on the National Common Core Standards Language Arts  Develop knowledge of letters and their sounds  Use letter sound correspondence to read and write  Blending sounds to read words  Identifying the beginning, middle, and end sound of words.  Read sight words independently and in text.  Read grade-level books.  Participate in reading activities with fiction and non-fiction books  Write a complete sentence using capitalization and punctuation.  Write upper and lowercase letters and use in creative writing activities.

Mathematics  Count aloud to 100.  Count objects up to 30 items.  Pattern (create and extend)  Identify numbers  Write numbers 0-30  Count by 5’s and 10’s to 100; 2’s to 30  Identify coins (penny, nickel, dime, quarter) and know corresponding value.  Basic addition and subtraction  Identify more than and less than Kindergarten Expectations Based on the National Common Core Standards
