Incentives talk… Conservation Incentives Advisor Rob Detta Colli (416)

My Mandate is… ISIS NOT Rental & Condo Social Housing New Build Smaller portfolio focussedLarge portfolio focussed One-window to incentive infoReplacing energy professionals InformationalSelling retrofits Current incentives“New” money

Why do people offer incentives?  Government Incentives: It’s not their money – it’s ours! It’s in the public’s best interest e.g. costs of pollution  Regulated by Government : Condition of licencing Public’s best interest Infrastructure cost avoidance Revenue formula changes for conservation

What’s next? Heat Electricity o Solar Thermal o Solar Electricity o Wind o Geo-thermal o Co-Gen

Solar Thermal Federal & Provincial: 1. ecoEnergy Retrofit (a.k.a. “NRCan program”)…not stackable with… 2. Federal: ecoEnergy for Renewable Heat o Last application - October 1, 2010 o Max - $400,000 per Solar Water install…$80,000 per Solar Air o $$ = Performance Factor x Incentive Rate x Collector Area o Perf. Factor - There is a list of accepted solar collectors 1 o Incentive Rate - $/m 2 …Solar Air, Solar Water Glazed…Unglazed o E.g. – (Unglazed) 0.97 x 30 $/m 2 x 4’ x 10’ x 10 = $1,065 o Provincial (OSTHI) – matches ecoEnergy = $1, A 50% accelerated CCA is provided under Class 43.2 of Schedule II 1 -

Solar Electricity Federal: 1. ecoEnergy Retrofit (a.k.a. “NRCan program”)…not stackable with… 2. ecoEnergy for Renewable Power o To March 31, 2011 o 1 cent/kWh for up to 10 years 3. A 50% accelerated CCA is provided under Class 43.2 of Schedule II Provincial: 1. Feed-In-Tariff

Wind Electricity Federal: 1. ecoEnergy Retrofit (a.k.a.

Geothermal & Co-Gen Geothermal - Federal: 1. ecoEnergy Retrofit (a.k.a. “NRCan program”) Co-Generation - Provincial: 1. Clean Energy Standard Offer Program 2. ecoEnergy Retrofit (a.k.a. “NRCan program”)

“Standard” incentives? EnbridgeBPPTor WaterNRCan Audits Electricity Gas Water Start DateCase by case New App: Jan 2008 Old App: Jul 2006 Annually Pre-approval required End DateN/D Sept 2010 Apr 2011 for chillers 2011MAR 2012

Enbridge… Audits: o Up to $5,000 o Must implement to save 25% of gas savings before $$ o Must be of a specific form 10¢ or 15¢ per m 3 : o Typical - 25% reduction, 150,000 m3 = $15,000 o Boilers & Controls o VSDs o Showerheads o Trick – Install 1 hi-eff and get higher incentive for everything

Toronto Better Building Partnership… Audits: o $35 per unit…yup…can be used with Enbridge`s $$ o 4 measures must be assessed…i.e. not just lighting o Must have done at least 1 recommended measure o Traditional or modeling approaches Prescriptive: o No pre-approval – No energy calculations required o Based on a predefined eligibility list o $1 to $250 per fixture Exit signs EnergyStar CFLs Standard T8s T5s Occupany Sensors Photocells & timers Programmable Thermostats Non-electric Chillers Heat Pumps Solar Hot Water Gas Dryers Energy Star appliances

Toronto Better Building Partnership… Calculated: 7¢ per kWh or $400 per kW : o Anything covered – must be able to prove the savings o Must have before and after photos o Limited to 50% of the project cost o Trick – Anything that’s 24/7…calculated gives more $$ o Application is really only 4 of the 17 pages HVAC upgrades Building automation Chiller replacements Deep lake water cooling

And if you don’t listen to any of that… Move forward with energy projects… How will HST impact your project costs and utility bills? Will OPA incentives continue for lighting?
