Why? To prove that girls and boys can work together. Raise awareness about gender equality and break the stereotypes about girls and boys. Strengthening the civil consciousness, national identity, patriotism and awareness of one’s own potential

When? 11 th of November, 2014 from 10 a.m. till 2 p.m. In connection with national awareness the sports day was devoted to November 11th “Lāčplēša” (“The Bear Slayer”) day which is celebration day of the national heroes and national strength in Latvia

Where? The Gulbene Sport Centre

What? Towelball. Pulling the rope 2 circles, a goal, a ball Making a braid Rally Relay race The feather Form teachers’ competition

Towelball - 3 pairs of students participate from each class. Each pair is given a beach towel, the rules are much like the volleyball ones. The pair has to cooperate and catch the ball which is thrown over the net by the opposing team. If the ball falls, the opposing team gets a point.

Pulling the rope – 3 girls and 3 boys participate from each class to prove that girls are as strong and fit as boys.

2 circles, a goal, a ball – The main goal of the game is to make girls and boys cooperate. The game takes place in a circular field in the middle of which there is a smaller circle. There is a goal in the second circle and the ball must be thrown with hands through the goal and from the side of the field which belongs to the opposing team. The team which has cooperated more successfully and gotten most points wins.

Making a braid Both girls and boys may participate. Students are connected with a rope. The team which has made the braid in the shortest time wins.

Rally – A 2-metre rope is connected to a metal pipe. At the end of the rope there is a small car. 2 students from each class try to wrap the rope around the pipe as fast as possible.

Relay race – 6 students participate. The race consists of 4 tasks. 1 st task: the students must pass a disc to each other holding it between the knees. 2 nd task: students sit in a row, making a sort of train. They must move a certain distance. 3 rd task: students form a circle and hold hands. Between the hands there is a hoop which must go around the circle and return to the starting point. 4 th task: a marker must be passed around a circle using only students’ feet. The fastest team wins.

The feather – unlimited number of participants. Students could participate individually and set their own record. A feather must be held aloft using a fan for as long as possible.

Form teacher’s competition – form teachers There are 5 teachers in a team. Each teacher must wear a hat, a scarf and gloves. Then they must find a way through a labyrinth, open a candy and go back. The fastest team wins.

Evaluation: Sum of points for the team appearance and the points acquired in each activity

Prize-giving: On the 14 th of November, 2014, during the Celebration concert Form 9 b won the 1st place among 7-9 classes, but form 12 in senior group. Every class got diplomas but the main idea was being together. Teachers also were prized for taking part.

The objective of this Sport`s day was to prove that young people can do sports together no matter what gender they are. It was confirmed that the main thing about sports and teamwork is not physical force but rather unity of teams and the ability to solve tasks together. The teachers also proved that all tasks can be performed quickly and precisely by listening to others.
