7 th and 8 th Grade Science Project Global Sun Temperature Project

Introduction We are from Grade 7-1 and 8 at St. Rose of Lima School in Rockaway Beach, New York. Each day we measured the temperature at lunchtime using Celsius thermometers. We made sure that the sun was never shining on the thermometers because this would have affected the temperature. We gathered our information about the minutes of sunlight each day from the Internet, TV News, and various newspapers. Interestingly, they all gave slightly different information so we took the average of them all. Next time we would try to find more reliable sources.

Conclusion The Students at St Rose of Lima in Rockaway Beach, NY have drawn two conclusions after doing the Global Sun Temperature Project and have taken data and graphed this data using Microsoft Excel on comparing Temperature and Daylight vs. Latitude. The two conclusions that we have come up with are: a) The closer the latitude is to 0 degrees the higher the temperature will be. This is because the sun is closer to the equator (O degrees latitude.) The graphs show this as the latitude gets closer to 0 degrees the temperature increases. b) The closer the latitude is to 0 degrees the more daylight there is. We have also concluded that there are different amounts of daylight based on the hemisphere that you are in. This is because of the tilt of the Earth. The graphs show that the closer you are to the equator the more daylight you will have.
