Describing data Mean Median Mode Range

Mean/Average To find the mean or average of a set of data you first : Add the numbers Count the number of data Divide the total of the numbers by the number of data. 6,4,6,5,7,7,4,9=48 There are 8 sets of data Divide 48 by 8 = 6 To check, 8 x 6= 48

Median The median number of a set of data is the number found in the middle. Arrange your data in order from least to greatest to find the middle number. Sometimes you will have two middle numbers. 4 5 6 7 9

Mode The mode of a set of data is the number that occurs most often in the data. You may have more than one mode. 4,6, and 7 are your modes in this set of data.

Range The range of a set of data is found by subtracting the least number from the greatest number. 9 – 4 = 5 In this set of data the range is from 4 to 9 with the exact range of 5.
