1 Mean, Median, Mode, and Range
Pre-Algebra By: Nicole Poinsett

2 Mean Definition: average of a set of numbers
To find: add all numbers together and divide by the number of numbers you have Example: 4, 2, 6, 1, 2 = 15 15/5= 3 The mean is 3.

3 Median Definition: middle number of a set of numbers when numbers are placed in order To find: place numbers in order from least to greatest and then find the number in the middle. If there is an even number of numbers find the average of the two numbers in the middle Example: 4, 2, 5, 1, 2 The median is 2.

4 Mode Definition: number that occurs the most
To find: find the number that occurs more than the others, there can be more than one or none at all Example: 4, 2, 6, 1, 2 The mode is 2.

5 Range Definition: difference between the largest and smallest number
To find: subtract the largest and the smallest number Example: 4, 2, 6, 1, 2 6-1= 5 The range is 5.
