HCM Position Management For Department Employees

HCM Position Management Overview The purpose of this class is to show the common procedures done by a Departmental Position Manager. In this class you will see how to: –Verify the details of a position using Position Cross Reference –Verify and change the funding sources of a position using Position Accounting –Create a position from scratch –Create a position by cloning an existing position –Modify a position

PeopleSoft Role Required Different roles are needed to do these functions: ProcedureRole Training Required Position Cross ReferenceHCM_Dept Position ViewNone Position AccountingHCM_Dept Financial MgrNone Create or Modify PositionHCM_Dept Position MgrThis class Those with Dept Financial Mgr or Dept Position Mgr roles will automatically be given Dept Position View. The Dept Position View role can also be requested by those in your area needing to see information but who will not make changes to the position number or funding. To request a role, go to My ASU, click on the “Request access to PeopleSoft” link in the Human Resources Info section.

Accessing the System Position Management is maintained in the PeopleSoft System. To access PeopleSoft, open a web browser and navigate to Login with your ASUrite ID and password. You can also get to PeopleSoft from My ASU. Click on the “Student Administration (powered by PeopleSoft)” link in the Teaching and Student Support tools section.

Position Basics A “Position” at ASU describes a unique job code, in a department, with a supervisor, and funding source. One or more employees can then be attached to that position. For example, there could be a position that describes: a professor (job code ) working in the Provost’s business unit (B0101), in the psychology department (B1728), reporting to an office specialist sr (position ), with funding from account MG If the Psych department had 15 professors where ALL attributes of the position are the same, then they could all be attached to the same position. This class is about creating and maintaining those positions.

More to Learn This is the end of this presentation. Next, please return to the “course materials” section of the class and go through the 5 practice exercises you will find there. After that – please follow the instructions in the “next steps” part of the class.
