Important People in History Social Studies SOL Review for Kindergarten and First Grade

In this presentation you will read and learn about important people from history. After you have finished learning you will answer review questions. Good Luck and Have Fun!!! this review covers SOLs K.1 and 1.1

George Washington George Washington was the first president of the United States. He is called the “Father of our country.” He was born in Virginia. Before he was president, George Washington was a farmer and a leader of soldiers.

Abraham Lincoln Abraham Lincoln was the 16th president of the United States. His nickname was “Honest Abe.” He was born in a log cabin. Although very poor, he taught himself to read and became a lawyer before being president.

Pocahontas Pocahontas was an American Indian girl who was a helper and a friend to the settlers in Jamestown.

Betsy Ross Betsy Ross is believed to have sewn the first flag for our country.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was an African American citizen who worked for the fairness of all people. There is a holiday in February to celebrate and remember how Martin Luther King, Jr. worked so that all people would be treated fairly.

Benjamin Franklin Benjamin Franklin proved that electricity was in lightning. He started the first library and the first volunteer fire department.

George Washington Carver George Washington Carver was an African American who studied science and plants. He developed hundreds of uses for the peanut, sweet potato and soy bean.
