The AASE National Research Award has been established to provide an opportunity for research that can support evidence based practice in the education of students with special needs. AUSTRALIAN ASSOCIATION OF SPECIAL EDUCATION Inc NATIONAL RESEARCH AWARD

Objectives of the AASE National Research Award To support research to identify effective teaching strategies to advance the learning of students with special needs to identify optimum provision of and access to quality education services for students with special needs to identify quality teacher education and professional development leading to positive outcomes for students with special needs.

PROTOCOLS The AASE Research Award will be funded through the Australian Disability Achievement Foundation, managed by AASE National Council. The AASE National Council will establish a n AASE Research Award Committee which will manage the Award in conjunction with the AASE National Executive and appropriate university research bodies. The AASE Research Award to the value of up to $10,000 will be made bi-annually or as deemed appropriate by the AASE National Council.

A PPLICATIONS Applicants must submit a description of their prospective research project including: 1. Applicant’s names, academic background, current positions, roles, organisation 2.Proposed aims/outcomes of project 3.Rationale/background for project including a brief literature review 4.Methodology for research 5.Significance and relevance to the objectives of the AASE National Research Award and AASE 6.Budget – costs/other funding sources 7.Timeline for project 8.Arrangements for obtaining ethics approval for the project (for example, University Ethics Committee/State Education Department ) 9.Details of a nominated University Research Office to manage funds)

Reporting Annual reports are required for AASE sole funded and jointly funded projects. Completion of all projects will be negotiated within a 3 year period. A final report is required at the end of each research project. On conclusion of the research a research paper may be offered to the Editorial Committee of the Australasian Journal of Special Education, and/or a report to the NSW Special Education Perspectives for consideration for publication.

Where appropriate and relevant to the theme of the conference program, the researcher may be invited to present the results of the research at the annual AASE National Conference following the submission of the research report.

PAYMENT OF FUNDS The Research Funds will be provided in the following way – The AASE Treasurer will contact the nominated University or agency. Funds will be paid to the University/agency on receipt of an invoice. This schedule can be varied in discussion with the AASE Treasurer Enquiries about the Award Dr Chris Kilham research which can support evidence based practice in the education of students with special needs.
