A request for money A marketing exercise A demonstration of research and presentation skills An exercise in project development and management, and employment of staff A vehicle for organisational development A central part of any position you have working in the community

3 Department of Federal Funding Community Fund Local Grants Program Call for Submissions The ‘Call for Submissions’ tells you how to complete the assignment by providing details about – The program (Program summary) – Key dates – Who can apply? – What will be funded? – How much funding is available? – Funding Categories – Lodging your submission

4 Program summary The Department of Federal Funding Community Fund Local Grants program supports initiatives that improve the health and wellbeing of Australians, awarding community groups up to $30,000 to fund programs within an EXISITING ORGANISATION to directly benefit their local community. The Department of Federal Funding Community Fund Local Grants program is fictitious.

5 Key dates Applications close: Close of business Wednesday 30 th October 2014 Who can apply? All students must apply if they wish to complete the requirements for this unit. To be eligible to apply, the organisation that you have chosen to focus your assignment upon needs to: – Support the health and wellbeing of Australians – Be endorsed by the Australian Tax Office with Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) status.

6 Instructions that MUST be followed What will be funded? You must address the selection criteria fully and include the following:- – An executive summary of the proposed community activity/initiative. (200 words) – An overview (500 words maximum) of the organisation including:- The organisation’s mission statement The objectives of the organisation. The values of the organisation The organisational structure The target group: that is who you will be targeting with this project. (Include demographic details of beneficiaries of the program such as age group, socio-economic background.) (300 words for this aspect of the overview) – What issues will be addressed for the target group by this project? (100 words)

7 What will be funded? (contd.) – Details of your project (1000 words). Present information that addresses the following:- Description of the project (200 words). Describe the benefits that will be gained by your target population from this program. (100) What are the long term community benefits as a result of this project? (100 words) Project aims (100 words). Number of staff / volunteers required (one must be a paid project officer) (100 words). Project Officer HR Plan – position overview and pre employment checklist and timetable. Methodology (Briefly and succinctly explain how will this project be implemented). (200 words) How will the proposed project be measured and/or evaluated to determine whether it has been successful in achieving the proposed outcomes? (200 words) The timeline for implementation of the community project. The project must be implemented within a one year period.

8 How much funding is available? $550,000 Australia-wide, awarded in individual grants of $30,000.00. This funding is to be used (at least in part) for employment of a project officer. Applications for the full amount available ($30,000) only will be considered

10 Lodging your submission All Submissions must be received by the due date. Late applications will not be considered unless special arrangements are made in advance and exceptional circumstances can be demonstrated. Applications close: Close of business (6.30) Wednesday 30 th October 2014
